Jay was born and raised in San Diego. He is a writer, director, and sometimes a freelancer who does production work. Jay graduated with a B.A. of high distinction in the Media, Film & Video major at the University of California, San Diego, with his thesis film "Amusement Park," a 30 minute film about a father and son's attempt to reconnect after twenty-six years apart.

In general, his short films tonally explore the interpersonal relationships of youth-in-transition--through dialogue and its proximity to nature.
